The Flint and Genesee Opportunity Youth Coalition’s approach is to better align current efforts and identify and fill current and upcoming workforce gaps in order to support and steer local youth toward education and gainful employment, as well as re-engage those who have become disengaged by providing multiple opportunities and venues to become involved with workforce training, leadership and educational opportunities.
We have experienced success in bringing increased awareness to these issues, creating a culture of collaboration around services and supports for local opportunity youth, and inspiring and supporting various Coalition members to expand and develop services specific to opportunity youth. We have also experienced learning around youth engagement; we are currently piloting new strategies and making new connections to help ensure authentic engagement of youth to inform outreach, program creation and pathway creation and refinement going forward.
